An SEO marketing career is not for everyone. For one thing there are risks to being an SEO affiliate marketer as there are no guarantee that you will have sales. No business is foolproof and the same goes for an SEO business that is based on affiliate marketing.

In order to succeed at SEO marketing you must have an entrepreneurial. An entrepreneurial spirit is one that likes what they do, is turned on by the risk of freelancing and that is competitive and ambitious (even if the odds seem stacked against them). If you are the type that yearns for other people’s approval, security and frequent pets on the head for a job well done then this career is not for you.

Individuals who have an entrepreneurial spirit are good at multi-tasking. They learn from their mistakes and are not overwhelmed by what to other people would seem to be catastrophes. They are also curious and looking for the next wave or new thing. They also know how to take the latest trend and turn it into an SEO website. A great SEO marketer can turn a single word into massive profits in just under a month by utilizing clever keywords.

Successful entrepreneurs also tend to have very good gut instincts. If you don’t feel that you are naturally a lucky person then it could be that your gut instincts are off and that you would not be a great judge of what sells or what is would be hot in the SEO market.

You always need to have a system. The system that works for you is worked out according to what your talents are, what you have to offer and what is in demand on the Internet. To a real entrepreneur, chaos is just an opportunity to make more money and not an occasion to have a nervous breakdown. If you don’t enjoy unpredictability then don’t consider an SEO marketing career.

When you are working to establish your own business you may believe certain things to be true about entrepreneurialism. While some traits may have merit there are other traits that may not be as necessary as you might have imagined.

Leadership Skills vs. Personal Drive

Interestingly, leadership skills are less important than personal drive. In most entrepreneurial efforts the seeds of an idea are cultivated by ONE not MANY. In the end if you believe in the idea you do not need the ability to lead others to pursue your dream.

Money vs. Dream

Entrepreneurial efforts are often about achieving a goal and less about making ‘money’ the primary goal. Certainly if you do your job well the money is likely to follow, but your efforts should be based on your dream first.

Power Broker vs. Average Joe

An entrepreneur does not need to pursue power in their business pursuits because they already possess the power they need to step out and follow their dream. In effect, an entrepreneur answers to themselves so, seeking personal power makes little sense in entrepreneurial efforts.

Extrovert vs. Introvert

You may find it interesting to learn that many introverted or shy individuals actually do well in many entrepreneurial endeavors. If you are outgoing it can be helpful to your overall goals, but the Internet has made it possible for introverted dreamers to find a place to let those dreams thrive.

Gamblers vs. Methodical Planning

Becoming an entrepreneur is often thought of as a gamble, however many entrepreneurs are better served by making careful plans and exercising proven strategies to minimize the chance of failure. Entrepreneurialism is not so much about throwing caution to the wind as it is about taking a dream and finding ways to make that dream a reality.

Organization vs. Creative Thought

You may find it interesting to note that some of the best business owners are not especially organized – it takes away from their ability to create new ways to make their business better. This is why you usually find these individuals with a quality assistant as the business grows. The end result is a mind that can envision where the business needs to go and steps over the pile of paperwork to get there.

As you take a look at the list you find that leadership skills, money, power brokering, being an extrovert, being a gambler and having strong organizational skills may not be as necessary to the role of entrepreneur as you may have thought.

So, with those excuses out of the way, what prevents you from following your dream?

Inspired by the huge successes of young entrepreneurs, many Americans are now aspiring to run their own business empire. What’s more, the need to nurture these skills from an early age has compelled parents to strongly encourage entrepreneurship development amongst their children. Thus, they become more attuned to knowledge and information on how to nurture these skills, and even implement daily activities which aim to develop these skills from pre-school onwards.

Indeed, the emphasis on entrepreneurship has gained ground in recent years due to massive layoffs and restructuring in corporate America. The lucrative profits made by business owners as compared to the absence of job security in employment, has prompted many to become self-employed.

What is encouraging though is that studies have shown that entrepreneurship can be learned and developed. It is not an in-born gift as many believe. Traits such as creative thinking, discipline, independence, confidence, strong communication skills, the ability to take risks, motivation and persistence can all be learnt and acquired over time.

However, in order to give our children a head start, these traits need to be developed from a young age. A study conducted by a former director of the Center of Entrepreneurial Leadership has discovered that entrepreneurial traits are already demonstrated by one in four kids while still at kindergarten. The down side to this is that if these skills are not developed during grade school, only 3% of high school graduates will utilize these abilities.

These findings reinforce the fact that as children don’t develop these skills in school, parents play a vital role in facilitating the development of these abilities. First, they need to teach their children the value of money. Apart from that, parents could involve their children in the process of making adult decisions. This will help them develop their maturity and decision-making skills. Another initiative parents could take is to pay their children to perform chores around the house, so that they are able to make the connection between working and earning money.

As for older kids, parents function as the mentor to their kids’ business ideas, providing positive input for idea expansion and improvement. In addition, parents are also in a position to help their kids develop their first business plan, and also to put their plan into action. Children could start with any small business ideas, a newspaper delivery business, dog-walking or even tutoring. In addition, parents need to constantly use positive reinforcements on their kids in order to boost self-esteem and confidence.

Last but not least, to encourage teamwork and exchange of ideas with their peers, kids should also be enrolled in entrepreneurial programs such as the Kids and Business seminars. These programs will help to infuse new insights, incorporate leadership skills and formally impart business skills to kids. Most importantly, these programs are essential to cover areas where parents are not equipped to teach. Ultimately, these kids will be ready with a full set of entrepreneurial skills that they can use to jumpstart their business.

Your business day has just begun and you quickly whip out your clearly written plans. Pardon? Did you say you don’t have a written business plan? Then join the club, ‘Business Owners Without Plans’. The main problem this club faces is that the majority of it members’ businesses are likely to fail. Business failure rate is high and a crucial reason for this is lack of planning.

If you belong to this group and I did once, you’re probably an entrepreneur or a creative person. The idea of planning feels boring to you, seems unnecessary and involves a lot of detail. And you’d rather be doing other more interesting things. Your way of working is probably a lot more spontaneous, exciting and in the flow so you don’t want to be restricted with plans. However, without plans you can to easily end up very unfocused, not achieving the results you desire and ultimately face the failure of your business.

So, what’s your reason for not having business plans? Besides the usual reasons, like not having sufficient time to plan, not knowing how to do it or where to begin, perhaps you think that planning doesn’t fit in with your entrepreneurial and creative spirit. After all, this is who you are and you don’t want to lose this. Now fear begins to surface; fear that you many need to change personally or fear of failure. While plans stay in your head, it’s not so frightening and real. Putting them in writing, brings them closer to fruition and although you may say this is what you want, is it really if you’re not willing to commit them to paper. Planning your business takes it from being a hobby to a fully-fledged business. Although a lot of people would say that they operate their business as a business, in reality most operate them as hobbies and donâ??t take them seriously. Then they wonder why they’re not being very successful and getting results.

I feel one of the problems for creative and entrepreneurial people is that when they consider business plans the picture that spring to mind is of hours pouring over enormous pages of details. That’s enough to turn them straight off. However, it doesn’t need to be that way. There is a way to develop plans for your business, and to be creative and entrepreneurial at the same time. These informal business plans are ones that you’ll use yourself. If you need a business plan for outsiders, such as your bank or investors then this approach might not be for you. It could however be a good process to get your formal business plan started.

Instead of thinking that you need to commit hours to working on your business plans, I invite you to start with just five minutes. Now, without any thought of the appropriate way to do it, just write down the things that first come into your head for your business. Simply capture any goals, strategies, problems, your current situation and positioning. Writing down your plans, clarifies, organises and prioritises them, and clears vital space in your head.

The next step is to tap into your strengths as an entrepreneur or creative person. You’re probably fantastic at coming up with ideas and solutions, and may well be intuitive. So, you’ll tap into all of these using the power of questions. You’ll use questions to come up with answers and solutions that you’ll put into your business plan. Your business plan need only be a straightforward review of your present situation, your strategies, resources and goals. Nothing complicated or too detailed.

Here are some questions to obtain you started:

What is the current business situation?

What goals do you have for your business?

What problems and challenges is your business currently facing?

What strategies are you using?

What strategies do you need to use?

What resources and opportunities do you have available?

Okay, so having spent five minutes on your business plans, I now invite you to make a commitment of five minutes each business day and continue working on your business plans. Once you’ve responded to the above questions, put on your creative and entrepreneurial hat, and come up with your own thought provoking questions to answer. Take your creative and entrepreneurial spirit, and use this to perfect plans for your business that keep you focused and producing the results you want. Once you start laying down some plans for your business and experience the benefits of doing this, you’ll find it easier to continue. The most important step is getting started.

As an entrepreneur or creative, what will it take for you to begin putting some of your business plans onto paper?

What planning for your business do you currently do?

What further planning do you need to do? ie. Sales, marketing, business development.

What will it take to start writing down your business plans?

How to become an instant entrepreneur

The 5 Parts of business innovation:

1) Understand: The ability to study and understand people of different likes, needs, characteristics, and demographics is priceless in marketing and innovation. Most companies don’t understand that to make better products and services, you absolutely have to care about the person using it. This is known as having empathy for the consumer. It is imperative to have a genuine interest in the needs of those you are serving for innovation to exist.

2) Observe: Many entrepreneurs started by observing either themselves or someone else struggling over a process or task. Scott Cook, founder of Intuit, for example, observed his wife one night tediously paying the bills manually and wondered if there was a way he might be able to “quicken” the process. Since then, Quicken is still driving hundreds of millions of dollars for the company.

The best innovators are those that experience first hand and are able to recognize trends and consumer needs immediately as they happen. This requires a keen sense of observation. As you observe people in their natural environments, it is important to ask the “why” question. For example, instead of accepting that one in five motorcyclists will eventually have an accident, ask the question “why?” Doing so will allow you to better understand and find the flaws in things you would not otherwise see. You can’t ask the motorcyclist why, you have to be able to figure it out by using your intuition. Start by keeping a “bug list” throughout the day. Every time you notice something that bugs your or someone around you, write it down. At the end of the day, when you’re relaxed and feeling inventive, think up the many things that could be done to get rid of these bugs.

3) Visualize: Your visualization potential is determined by your ability to see the end result without allowing your limitations to get in the way. In visualization, the devil’s advocate is the enemy.

The “vibrating cell phone” was invented by IDEO, who noticed that their employees became increasingly annoyed by people’s cell phones going off during meetings. It didn’t take long for them to realize that this was happening in corporate meetings around the world. They understood and had empathy for who they were addressing, the emotional value was there, and they visualized their end result- a meeting without the annoying interruptions of everyone’s cell phones going off while discussing important matters. They tried putting a red flashing light on the antennae, a giant button that could be pressed immediately to forward the person to a “please hold” message while the person exited the meeting and many other concepts before they finally came up with the vibrating cell phone.

4) Evaluate and Refine: It is critical that after an idea has been generated, and the concept has been thought through using visualization, it must be evaluated for and refined. This involves a concept known as prototyping. You don’t truly know whether or not something will work until a “mock-up” has been created. At this point, another brainstorming session is usually required in order to evaluate and refine the prototype.

5) Implement: Implementation is the action taken to the idea. It is the mass production. It requires a shear determination and willingness to do to whatever it takes to take it to the public. Often, funding is required to make this happen. This is when your strength of character, perseverance, and willpower is often tested, as is the validity of your product. You know that it works, and while You may know that it will help many people, you just have to be able to convey it and convince those that have the resources to make it happen. Never lose sight of the fact, however, that you have what 99.9% of people do not- the ability to master innovation. Such qualities are highly sought after and valued by corporations and investors, so it is important to not get frustrated and have absolute perseverance in your quest for implementation.

“Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.” – Franklin P. Jones

Becoming an entrepreneur is about taking an idea and making a successful business from the sale of the idea. If the idea is a product, the sale of the product will require more than simple creativity and innovation.

“An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field.” – Niels Bohr

In the 1980′s a father in Wyoming created a product for his daughter to play with. The invention consisted of a wheel that was roughly the size of a toy wagon wheel. A separate pole with a stabilizing device attached was used to keep the wheel upright and balanced. This invention provided hours of amusement for his daughter, but when he tried to develop a business selling the product he discovered there was absolutely no market for it. This same gentleman also attempted to prove the viability of the manufacture of cement brickettes as a cost effective substitute for lava rocks in gas grills. He rejected the idea when after a few grillings the cement literally exploded causing the destruction of his grill as well as a steak dinner.

The above is an example of a couple of failures in entrepreneurialism. Consider the above glimpse as an argument for marketing research and testing.

“Strong people make as many mistakes as weak people. Difference is that strong people admit their mistakes, laugh at them, learn from them. That is how they become strong.” – Richard Needham

The perfect entrepreneurial scenario would be to provide a solution to an underserved market where demand exceeds existing supply or to be the first to meet an emerging demand. In either case there needs to be a significant amount of market research to determine the longevity of anticipated demand along with the reliability of the solution you are offering.

Imagine if the cement brickettes were marketed and sold only to have the flaw discovered when someone was injured from cement shrapnel.

So much goes into the development of a business idea and you have to have a solid business plan in mind in order to get funding. It only makes sense to be sure you have completed all the needed research to assure both your banker as well as yourself that the product or service you are offering will provide benefits that will meet demands and provide success for all involved.

Once you undertake the development of a business you utilize a variety of entrepreneurial skills. You find yourself working hard to keep things going, but there’s a real sense of satisfaction in the work.

Recently I was told of a woman who had started her twenty-first business. In each case the business was related to cooking. The good news was this woman was a capable businesswoman and an excellent cook.

The problem for this woman was that she got tired of running a business very easily. She would get a business established and grow weary of the day-to-day grind and would set a date to close the doors. Her husband was a carpenter and had systematically refurbished twenty separate properties for his wife’s business ventures.

This woman recently started a coffee shop with a variety of baked goods for sale. The business hadn’t been open 3 months when a separate coffee shop opened in the same retail complex. When she discovered the new business she threw her hands up in despair and asked the owner of the second shop if she could come to work for her.

You see, there is an invisible wall that is sometimes difficult to overcome. That wall is moving beyond the difficult work of day-to-day business where you are needed in the monitoring of all aspects of the business. Some, like the lady in our story, simply get tired and go home to regroup their strength for a later attempt. Others will find ways to derive income that does not rely on their own efforts. These are the entrepreneurs that more easily move forward.

Passive Income

If you are a store that specializes in a product you have created, the sale of items that are available from other suppliers can provide income that is your simply because you supplied shelf space.

The sale of insurance provides a means of deriving an income based on commissions that require little attention from you.

The use of affiliate programs can allow others to sell your products and provide you with an income on something you were not actively involved in selling.

The development of passive income is important to entrepreneurs because if you attempt to develop revenue exclusively on your own then your revenue stream goes dry the minute you need time off.

Someone once said, “Work smarter, not harder.” That’s especially true as you continue to develop your business. Seek ways to allow others to help you sell and market your goods and services. This likely means there will be salespeople working at selling your business even when you’ve left the building for a much needed day off.

Essential Entrepreneurial Skills that Propel your Business to Success.

Though various reasons are attributed for starting a business the main reason without any doubt is to make money. People who start a business know very well that they can never become rich by working for someone else all life long.

To start a business and run it successfully, a range of essential entrepreneurial skills are necessary. If success is what you are after, then it stands to reason that you possess most of the essential skills or acquire them before you commence your business especially if you want to run the business yourself.

The other alternative will be to take in a partner or employee who possesses a particular skill or the skills that you are deficient in.

What then are the essential entrepreneurial skills the business entrepreneur should possess?

1. Planning Skill.

Proper planning is the fundamental first step you should undertake when you consider starting a new business. Feasibility of the business, marketing of the product, local competition and funding are some of the essential aspects that should be studied carefully. Good planning should be able to forecast and foresee the changing market conditions and adopt suitable strategies to counter or take advantage of them. They should also explore possibilities of adding new products or services to keep up with the changing circumstances and beat the competition.

2.Techinical or Knowledge Skill:

If you are turning out a product, you should possess the necessary skills to produce that product. Experience gained in working in similar work places or a professional qualification will stand you in good stead. Of course for certain types of businesses, experience is not essential but to satisfy your customers and provide a good service, technical skills play an important role.

Furthermore it is absolutely essential to keep on updating your knowledge by reading books and attending seminars to keep ahead of your competitors.

3.Marketing Skill:

Marketing is another very important essential skill on which depends the very success or failure of your business. It is the process of identifying your potential customers and persuading them to buy your products or services. Sales, Promotions, Pricing and Public Relations are some of the skills that are an essential part of marketing. Mishandling or negligence of this aspect can lead to failure.

4. Financial Skill:

Financial skills play a major role in the running of a business big or small. Book keeping, estimating, invoicing, negotiating credit terms, controlling cash flow are some aspects of the financial skills you should be able to handle. Negligence of this aspect can lead to recurring cash flow problems such as inability to purchase goods, non payment to suppliers and irregular payment of bank loans. It is obvious that with these problems no entrepreneur can succeed or have peace of mind in running a business.

5. Management Skill:

The need for management skills becomes necessary, especially if you have the intention of employing several employees. Skills in areas such as recruitment, team building, motivation, knowledge of employment law and health and safety requirements are all part of management skills. Knowledge of these skills and implementing them judiciously will help you build a team of motivated employees working for the success of your enterprise.

6. Organizational Skill:

Whether your business is big or small or whether you employ workers to run your business, your organizational skill will be tested fullyas an etrepreneur. You have to set up systems to take orders, handle enquiries and maintain records. A knowledge of these skills will help in the efficient day to day running of the business.

Conclusion:

Each and every entrepreneurial skill mentioned above is essential. If you do not possess some of these skills, acquire them. The easy way out is to go into partnership or employ someone who possesses these skills. Adopting these measures will mean that you are now on the right track to become a successful business entrepreneur.
